"In every nation he that feareth (God), and worketh righteousness, is accepted with Him" (Acts 10:34).

God is no respecter of persons in the sense that the nationality of people has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not they are accepted with Him. It matters not whether they be Jew or Greek, black or white, red or brown, high or low, rich or poor, if they have been quickened by the Spirit of God and are consequently God-fearing workers of righteousness, they are accepted with Him.

Primitive Baptists have often been accused of having a narrow platform, but this is far from being true. In fact, it is those who make this charge who actually have a narrow platform, for they argue that none will be saved eternally except those who hear, believe and obey the gospel. This excludes most of the human race, to say nothing of those who die in infancy, the mentally incapable, and those who lived before the gospel dispensation. But Acts 10:34 well expresses the Old Baptist platform and it embraces all God-fearing people, even in the most remote regions of the earth where the sound of a gospel sermon has never been heard. It embraces a people "out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation" (Rev. 5:9) and this is a "great multitude" that no man can number (Rev. 7:9). This is a much broader platform than popular religion has.

We have often heard other orders say that it is their goal to "take the world for Christ," and we Old Baptists would have no objection whatsoever if they could achieve that goal, but they have never done it, and they never will. There are those whom our Lord described as goats, and to whom He said, "Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do" (John 8:44). These do not fear God, and they never will. They do not work righteousness and they never will. But if it were possible for the religious world to convert them and turn them into sheep, what reason would we have to object? From our viewpoint, the more righteous people there are in the world, the more pleased we are. It's just that we Old Baptists understand that the only ones who will be brought to fear God and work righteousness are among the elect family of God. The doctrine of the Bible bars no one from heaven except those to whom heaven would be hell. And that's the way it should be.
