"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you" (I Peter 5:7). |

Part of what is involved in humbling ourselves "under the mighty hand of God" is our casting all our care upon Him. We must have the aid of His Holy Spirit in this, for it is contrary to our fleshly nature to "submit ourselves" to Him (See James 4:7), and that is what we are doing when we obey His precepts. Conversely, we are exalting ourselves and rebelling against Him when we do not obey Him. It grieves me to think of the number of times I have failed to cast my cares upon the Lord. And any time I have ever been guilty of this failure it has resulted in distress of soul and anguish of mind and heart that I otherwise would not have had to endure. I rather suspect that each of us have experienced the difficulty involved in immediately submitting ourselves to God when distresses have arisen. I believe many times our initial reaction is to begin trying to figure out how we ourselves are going to work the problem out, and this results in sleepless nights and the weakening of our health. This is not to say that there is never anything for us to do, for God always expects us to do what we can, but while we are doing that we should also be submitting ourselves to His will, trusting in His mercy and acknowledging within our heart that He is in complete control of all events and circumstances. We sometimes try to go ahead of the Lord and this invariably, and inevitably, gets us into even deeper trouble. Unbelief is a great foe to God's people. It has caused us all much suffering. We need to remember that nothing is too hard for the Lord and that one way or another, and in His own time, He will deliver us out of all our afflictions. At any time we are troubled and distressed over anything, no matter what it may be, let us take our burden to the Lord, and if we cannot then and there cast it upon Him, let us take even that to Him. Eventually we will be able to cast it all at His feet and leave it there. How wonderful it is that the Lord cares for His people and extends to them the blessed privilege of casting their cares upon Him. May He help us to avail ourselves of this blessed opportunity. |
