"The heavens declare the glory of God: and the firmament showeth his handiwork" (Psalm 19:1).

Wherever we train our eyes we are beholding the handiwork of God. Everything around us bespeaks His power, wisdom and glory, whether it be in the intricate design of the lily or the brilliant colors of the rainbow---the tiniest grain of sand or the most gargantuan star. The one is as much His work as the other and is just as illustrative of His glory. Although the declarative voice of the heavens as it proclaims the glory of God is a passive one, just as the songs of birds passively glorify Him, yet it is a wonderful declaration, and is of such a magnitude that it reaches to earth's remotest bounds and beyond.

The immensity of the heavens speaks loudly and clearly of the greatness of God. The stars of the sky are innumerable (See Gen. 15:5, Heb. 11:12) and yet He even calls them all by their names (See Psalm 147:4). Think upon this and marvel!

No matter how far the greatest telescopes peer out into space, they only discover more and more of God's handiwork, greater and more wonderful enigmas and marvels. And yet, the Bible speaks of the heavens as God's finger work (See Psalm 8:3). What a gloriously incomprehensible Being He is, that He can merely speak and it is done! Such things are far too high for us!

The heavens declare that God is a God of infinite variety (See I Cor. 15:40-41). He has not created either men or stars so that they are mere clones of one another, but He makes them all to differ one from another (See also I Cor. 4:7). Among the untold billions of earthlings no two of them are exactly alike, either in appearance or personality. So also do the heavenly bodies each bear their own distance qualities and characteristics.

The heavens are indeed a grand testifier to the glory of God, for they show Him to be infinitely great and wise; a God of endless design and uninterrupted order, and a God of limitless power. Oh thou unbeliever! Dost thou seek a sign or proof of God's existence? Thou art without excuse, for they are all around thee---above they head and beneath thy feet. Were it not for thy blindness, it would be plain to thee!
