"If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed" (Gal. 1:9).

Paul expressed his amazement at how short a time it took some of the Galatians to be led off into error by false teachers and their perversions of the gospel. And we likewise marvel today that such vast numbers of God's people have been taken in, and deluded by, what the apostle called, "another gospel". How few, in our day, have access to the true gospel, and of those who do hear it, how rare are those who receive it and embrace it! "Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?" (Isa. 53:1).

"Any other gospel" than that which was preached by Christ and the apostles is plainly and simply a perversion of the gospel (See Gal. 1:7), and perversions of the gospel trouble God's people. Paul pronounced an anathema upon those who preach such perversions, which shows that he did not subscribe to the notion, so popularly held today, that it does not matter what we believe just so long as we are sincere. It does indeed matter, and it matters a great deal. "The truth shall make you free" (See John 8:32) but error can make you extremely miserable, depending on what the error is.

There is just one true gospel. Paul ruled out all the "other gospels" besides the one he preached. I have always thought that common sense and reason should tell anyone that there can be but one true account of what Christ did and what He accomplished for His people. There can be but one set of accurate instructions for the saints to follow. There cannot be numerous conflicting gospels and all of them be true. Therefore Paul declared emphatically and without equivocation that "though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we preached unto you, let him be accursed" (Gal. 1:8). It would be hard to state anything any plainer.

There are hundreds of different churches today, all preaching their own version of the gospel, and all claiming to have the truth, but unless they are holding to, and preaching, the same doctrines and practices Paul documented and preached, they are wrong.
