"The ways of the Lord are right" (Hosea 14:9).

Many a time during my life I have heard men, and even a few women, charge God with cruelty, unfairness and injustice. But there has always been something in me that was greatly repulsed by such accusations against the Deity, for I have always known that God is in all respects holy and just and good. If God could make a mistake or if He could do anything amiss, He would not be God.

On many occasions I have heard the advocates of popular religion say that the doctrine of Election is a dangerous doctrine. It has always astounded me to hear so-called professors of religion make such a God-dishonoring statement. By saying such things they clearly imply that God made a major blunder when He inspired men to include information on the doctrine of Election in the Bible. It is ludicrous on the face of it to think that an all-wise God would leave information on record by divine inspiration that would be dangerous for His people to know. I feel sure that people often just do not stop to think about what they are saying.

The very thought of God doing anything that was not right was very abhorrent to the apostle Paul. In anticipation of the negative reaction of unenlightened men to his teachings on the subject of Election, he asks, "What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God?" And then he answers his own question with a resounding, "God forbid". No! God's electing love is so far from being an instance of injustice, that it is, in every place, shown rather to be an instance of great mercy. The Scriptures are very clear in maintaining God's divine prerogative, and right, to do what He will with His own (See Matt. 20:15).

David says, "The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works" (Psa. 145:17). It couldn't be stated any better or any clearer. We as poor, weak mortals may not understand what God does, and often we do not, but of this we may be fully assured, "The ways of the Lord are right," whether we understand them or not.
